Explore Klagenfurt
Klagenfurt is a beautiful example of a traditional Austrian town, and this relaxed destination offers a wide range of fascinating attractions. You can explore the town centre on foot, or even hire bicycles, and cycle along the paths that wind along the shore of the beautiful lake.
- Perhaps the most famous of Klagenfurt’s landmarks is the Lindwurm, a 16th century monument right in the heart of the town. This statue illustrates a dragon from a local legend, which is said to have lived in the mountains near Klagenfurt. The Duke of Klagenfurt promised a large amount of land to anyone who could kill this beast, and when a group of farm workers managed to trick and slay the dragon, they founded the early town of Klagenfurt.
- The Minimundus, or ‘miniature word’ of Klagenfurt is another curious attraction. This park houses a collection of miniaturised buildings and monuments, representing some of the top tourist attractions from various countries all around the world.
- If you’re travelling to Klagenfurt with your family, then be sure to visit the Reptilienzoo. This small zoo features a wide range of reptiles, snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies… and it’s sure to entertain younger visitors to the town.
- Then there’s the Europapark. This beautiful area of parkland close to the Wörthersee lake is a great place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, or even stop off for a picnic. Here you’ll be able to play a game of chess with giant wooden pieces, or watch the majestic peacocks.
