Vienna is something of a cultural capital in central Europe. As the capital of Austria, it’s guaranteed to charm with its combination of sunning architecture, rich heritage, and modern chic diversions. Getting around the city of Vienna
There is an incredible number of museums to choose from in Vienna. One of the best ways to step into its heritage is to head to the Museumsquartier. Here you’ll find a range of the best showcases of artwork and heirlooms, as well as some great cafés and bars too. The centre of Vienna is a UNESCO world heritage site. As you’d expect, it has an amazing atmosphere of opulence, and some fine examples of Imperial architecture. Other buildings of note include the Opera house, which is something of a key part of Vienna’s identity, and the Schloss Schonbrunn. The Schloss – or ‘castle’ – is another bit of UNESCO-protected wonder, so expect fairytale delights.
For shopping you can’t really go wrong on a Vienna holiday. In the Innere Stadt, or ‘city centre’, you’ll find several great shopping areas. Check out Am Graben for a street that’s lined with boutiques and delis. Alternatively, Kohlmarkt is a real splurger’s paradise. It host some really upmarket shops, and prides itself on top-class luxury items. If you want to take part in some open-air shopping, with some great bits of entertainments and quirkiness thrown in, head to the Naschmarkt. This marketplace is great for tourists, with loads of opportunities for souvenirs, and features some lovely open-air eateries too.
Eating out on a holiday in Vienna is a delight. You’ll find plenty of good quality street food, usually featuring sausages in some capacity or anther. For sit-down meals you’ll see that Vienna is hard to beat on choice. There’s a massive array of food on offer, from all different sides of the world, as well as some Austrian traditional delicacies too. You’ll find that for drinking in the evening most of the cafés transform into places that primarily sell alcohol after a certain time. Of course, they’re a great place for soft drinks too. Vienna is famous for its wonderful coffee, so make sure you try some before you leave.
