Bank holidays are a popular time to travel abroad and a good way of maximizing your annual leave entitlement. The Easter Bank Holiday weekend with Good Friday and Easter Monday is traditionally the start holiday season and an ideal time for families to travel. With many children getting two weeks off, cooler temperatures and quieter resorts than the summer season, Easter also sees the start of the holiday season for much of the Mediterranean including the smaller resorts in the year round destinations of Spain, Portugal and the Canaries. Booking for the 2011 Easter bank holiday (as with most bank holiday times) should be done well in advance, however you may be able to find late deals and last minute bargain holidays if you are lucky.
Alongside Easter, the August bank holiday weekend also sees many people taking off on their holidays and for much the same reasons. The kids are still on school holidays and places like the Spanish Costa’s, the Canaries, Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca, Greece and The Greek Islands, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus as well as Portugal, Egypt and Tunisia can almost guarantee warm sunshine and a great atmosphere during peak season. Again booking well in advance is advisable and although being one of the most expensive times to travel, we have plenty of low cost deals to choose from if you are flexible.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year bank holidays are a great time to spread your wings and visit somewhere further afield. Get away from the cold, wet British winter with a trip to Africa, the Caribbean, Mexico, the USA or the Indian Ocean. Why not open your Christmas presents in front of a palm tree this year or see in the New Year with the countdown at Times Square in New York (time it right and you might also catch the sales!). Combine a cultural tour of Jerusalem and Bethlehem with a spa break in the Dead Sea as part of a seasonal visit to Israel or visit Dubai on the Arabian Gulf. Combine a cultural tour of Jerusalem and Bethlehem with a spa break in the Dead Sea as part of a seasonal visit to Israel or visit Dubai on the Arabian Gulf for world class accommodation, beaches, golf and shopping. You can also get a little winter sun deals closer to home. The Mediterranean, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Portugal, Cyprus and the Greek Islands are still popular for holidays at this time of year and many people swap the UK weather for the above over the winter bank holiday season.
