Discover Whistler
Not so long ago, Whistler used to be no more than a sleepy little mountain town known as Alta Lake. However, thanks to the work of some ingenious town planners, this ideal mountain location was soon marketed for its great skiing potential. The first resort was built here in 1967, and since then the town has continued to grow and grow, eventually becoming one of Canada’s premiere ski destinations.
- Skiing is one of the more popular attractions on offer at Whistler, and particularly up at the resort known as Whistler-Blackcomb. The slopes here cater for a wide variety of skill levels, and 37 ski lifts are in use to service over 200 individual runs. In total, the pistes at Whistler-Blackcomb cover a 1,500m vertical drop.
- Skiing and snowboarding aren’t the only outdoor sports practised in the area around Whistler, however. Both hiking and rock climbing draw a large number of visitors to the area, and there are some great trails that branch up across the Blackcomb Glacier. This would also be a great opportunity to try your hand at the thrilling sport of ice climbing!
- When you’re not out on the slopes, Whistler offers a great range of comforts and entertainments. You’ll be able to enjoy sociable evenings at the town’s many bars and restaurants, or even take advantage of attractions such as cinemas, bowling alleys, or the town ice rink.
