Long Bay Holidays in 2013

Long Bay beach is the beautiful stretch of sand that is the coastline’s major attraction. The beach itself is only five minutes from the village of Willikies. The fine white sand and crystal clear, blue waters make it a great place for snorkelling and swimming as well as just relaxing in the sun. Devils Bridge National Park is only a short ride from Long Bay and has the best lookout point for stunning panoramas and views of the surrounding coastline.

Fresh seafood is the local specialty and you can sample some of the freshly caught fish and seafood at most of the local restaurants. The Long Bay area itself only has a few bars and restaurants, but there are a few restaurants serving international cuisine dotted around the beach. ‘Mamma Pasta’ is a popular restaurant that serves Italian cuisine, with homemade pasta and sauces.

The Long Bay area is home to a few hotels, all of which have excellent views and are within easy reach of the beach. The hotels vary in size and price, though there is enough range to suit a variety if tastes and budgets. Two major hotels in the area are the Grand Pineapple Hotel and Verandah Resort & Spa, the later offers a gym, spa facilities and its own swimming pool.

Devils Bridge National Park is one of the most popular areas of outstanding natural beauty in Antigua. The limestone rocks have been eroded over thousands of years producing a natural arch in the rock face. Many people take the short trip to the park for a day’s walking and a picnic. Codrington Bay is another popular region, home to some truly fantastic sea view and vistas.

The area along Long Bay and the surrounding region is only home to a small selection of restaurants, many of which are located in the hotels along the beach. If you are looking for some nightlife that is a little more exciting then head along the coast to Dickenson Bay for lively entertainment. The bay is home to a number of lively late night bars and clubs many of which have live music and entertainment.

The Grand Pineapple Beach Hotel sits on a secluded stretch of sandy beach, surrounded by acres of tropical planting, overlooking the horseshoe shaped Long Bay. The Verandah Hotel and Spa Resort is another popular hotel in the region that is known for its exceptional spa facilities with a large range of treatments available.

Devils Bridge National Park is home to some of the most unique and beautiful natural scenery in all Antigua. Devil’s Bridge is a natural arch formed in the limestone rock over millennia; you can take a jeep safari of the area and discover the surrounding countryside. The ruins of Codrington Estate on the nearby island of Barbuda are another popular tourist attraction.

There are only a few restaurants and bars along the beach at Long Bay. One of the most popular is the Beach House which serves a wide variety of international cuisine and is positioned right on the beachfront. The Beach House and the other restaurants along the coast are known for their exceptional fish and seafood freshly caught by the local fishermen.
