Holetown in the parish of St. James is the oldest town in Barbados having been the site of the first British settlement in the early 1600s. It is also one of the most exclusive resorts on the island lying just far enough outside the capital of Bridgetown to escape its lively atmosphere but close enough so you can visit whenever you feel the need.

Beaches in Holetown

Paynes Bay, just south of Holetown is a great place to waste your days away, the golden sands and gentle waters are perfect for snorkelling and you can be safe in the knowledge that the kids will be safe paddling in the mellow surf

The stretch of coastline in St James parish is often referred to as the platinum coast due to the plethora of incredible beaches, take your pick from Pratts Rock, Sandy Lane Bay and Alleynes Bay

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous then head to Church Point and grab a surf board, the breakers here are ideal for beginner to intermediate surfers

Folkestone marine park, just north of Holetown makes for a great family day out, they even offer snorkelling tours as well as the inland aquarium and museum

The golfers among us will be happy to hear that Holetown boasts a championship standard golf course while there are also opportunities to try horse riding and kayaking

Diving enthusiasts will be happy to hear that Carlisle Bay is home to over 200 shipwrecks and trips are easy to arrange

As you’d expect from any premiere resort Holetown offers 5* dining, freshly caught lobster is a particular highlight

The various beach bars in Holetown with their chilled out vibe are a great place to relax and unwind

If you feel like partying then head to Bridgetown, a 20 minute journey, and make the most of the chic bars and nightclubs
