When is the best time to go?

Barbados’ climate doesn’t vary very much which makes it an ideal holiday destination at anytime of the year. The best time to visit however, is during the months of December to May. Storms can be quite common especially between the months of June and November and it is often considered safe to avoid this hurricane season. Humidity is often high from August to October.

"The Gap" as it's known locally has built up a reputation as the Island's most popular destination to head to, to experience nightlife in Barbados. Almost any night of the week is good for a pub crawl but the weekends are spectacular. For those that want to party until the early hours of the morning this is the place to go. The St Lawrence Gap draws a younger crowd, couples, singles looking for singles and some older people wanting to participate if only by watching others enjoying themselves.

How much is a meal going to cost me?

Meals at fast food restaurants and street stands cost approximately $5-8 per person. Dining at a mid-priced restaurant that features both Bajan specialties as well as international cuisine will cost approximately $10-25 per person. In Upscale restaurants that showcase the world-class chefs of Barbados offering traditional gourmet menu items, such as caviar and pâté, as well as exotic local dishes and regional catches you should expect to pay about $25 per person.

  • Choose accommodation with air-conditioning. Ceiling fans on their own are not always sufficient.
  • The currency in Barbados is the Barbados dollar which is fixed to the US dollar.
  • In Barbados the time difference is 4 hours behind GMT.
  • Beware of mosquitoes at any time of the year. Although Barbados has no malaria risk, mosquitoes can ruin your holiday by biting your ankles and legs particularly, so make sure you don’t forget to pack your mosquito repellent and go crazy with it at night to keep them away!

  • Barbados’ water supply is extremely clean and safe to drink. Make sure you drink plenty of water so you don’t become dehydrated after spending a day in the sunshine.
  • There is a 15% VAT charged in stores and restaurants, and 7.5% in hotels
