Grenada Holiday Information
Known as the “Spice Island” due to the fragrant scent of nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and vanilla, the Caribbean’s Windward Island of Grenada exudes a laid back atmosphere and is graced by the Grand Anse, a beautiful two mile stretch of classically Caribbean palm, fringed, white foreshore and one of the world’s most famous beaches.
The pretty capital of St George is lively and great for dining and choosing cheap holiday souvenirs. Beautiful waterfalls, miles of tropical National Park land and some of the best Caribbean scenery is why this island is so popular with couples and families alike, looking for a picture perfect holiday.
Grenada is a mere 30 kilometres long by about 16 kilometres wide and is ideal for exploring. The choice of cheap accommodation is superb, with hotels, self catering apartments and “all inclusive” holiday locations being the most popular. Grenada has only recently become a holiday destination so maintains an unspoilt air and is perfect for a very relaxing, peaceful holiday.
Beaches in Grenada
One of Grenada’s most attractive features is the many beautiful beaches. About 45 in total, the beaches are officially public property meaning that the public can go to any beach irrespective of where it is located. Grand Anse Beach is situated in a sheltered bay and is a favourite the world over. Four kilometres of glorious white sand stretches before you on the western side of Grenada, and as it is calm and sheltered, the Grand Anse Beach is also a perfect location for water sports, restaurants, and market vendors selling cheap wares. Just south of Grand Anse is the more secluded beach of Morne Rouge where the water is fairly shallow and generally warmer, ideal for families with young children. Beaches around St David’s and Lance Aux Epines are a little harder to access but are very secluded, and some have black sand.
