Montego Bay holidays uncovered – insider tips
Whatever you want from your Montego Bay holidays, lowcostholidays.com has some great insider tips to get you the most out of your holiday.
When is the best time to go?
Jamaica’s rainy season is from May to June and August to November. It’s warm all year round, but slightly cooler from December to March.
Spectacular nights out
If you’re feeling lucky, the Coral Cliff Casino is a great night out, with food, drink and gambling on offer to anyone of age! Margaritaville is always a popular night out as well.
Hidden Gems
If you’re into nature, the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary just outside Montego Bay is an ideal, tranquil spot to watch some fascinating tropical birds.
How’s the Shopping?
There are a huge number of duty free shops in the Montego Bay area, and they are a lot cheaper than UK prices. Don’t expect them to be giving stuff away though!
For your souvenirs, visit Doctors Cave Bathing Club shopping arcade, as it has a good range of shops.
Where Can I Get A Burger?
There are loads of restaurants in Montego Bay, many of them tourist orientated. There are still the cheap fast food options like KFC and Burger King, but if you want something a little more authentically Jamaican, check out the Pork Pit Restaurant for some amazing jerk pork.
Get in with the locals
Here are a few pointers for blending in on your Montego Bay holidays;
Can I drink the water?
It’s safest to drink bottled water, though the quality of tap water is generally good.
What’s the 999 number?
In an emergency, call 119 for police or 110 for fire and ambulance
Shall I pack sun cream/anorak?
If you’re visiting in the rainy season, you’ll need both! Any other time of year, sun cream is highly advised unless you intend to disguise yourself as a tomato.
How do I get around?
The bus is always popular as it’s the cheapest option. Walking outside the main tourist area isn’t a great idea, so take a taxi if you’re heading out of town.
Shall I learn the local lingo?
The official language of Jamaica is English, so no!
Do I need to tip?
10-20% depending on service is the norm.
