St Kitts & Nevis Holiday Information
Like no other in the Caribbean, the islands of St Kitts and Nevis seem to exemplify the lush tropical paradise associated with the South Pacific, rather than with the Caribbean.
Located in the northern part of the Leeward Islands, in the eastern Caribbean, St Kitts and Nevis are separated by a mere 3 kilometres of sea. St Kitts is about 30 kilometres long by 9 kilometres wide and reaches up 3,792 feet at the top of the dormant volcano of Mount Liamuiga.
The smaller island of Nevis lies to the south and is just ten kilometres in diameter and is where the young Horatio Nelson met and married Fanny Nisbet.
Hiking through the islands’ rain forests whilst on holiday on either St Kitts or Nevis is outstanding, the golf courses internationally ranked, fishing and sailing available from just about anywhere, and diving and snorkelling through the underwater reefs and ship wrecks, absolutely fascinating.
For the most authentic holiday on St Kitts and Nevis look at staying in a plantation house, however cheap holidays may be found in all inclusive and half board hotels, and self catering apartments with lowcostholidays.com.
Beaches in St Kitts & Nevis
Most of the stunning sandy beaches on Nevis offer a selection of water sports and eating facilities. Families particularly enjoy Pinney’s Beach and Qualie Beach, and snorkelling is particularly good on Nisbet Beach and Long Haul Bay. For bird spotting on Nevis head to Fort Ashby Beach and for a secluded location, look for Lovers Beach. On St Kitts, there are many beaches to suit a variety of tastes. In the north are attractive dark volcanic bays but in the south the coast line is more protected and popular. The Atlantic beach side of St Kitts is great for bodysurfing whilst the Caribbean side attracts more families. The south eastern coast is perfect to discover deserted beaches and little bays, whilst Turtle Beach is probably the liveliest.
