Chengdu is an old and influential city, and serves as the capital of China’s Sichuan province. This bustling modern city offers a wealth of different attractions, from interactive science museums to fine dining and even theme parks. However; the contemporary urban culture of downtown Chengdu lies in stark contrast with its surroundings. Chengdu Holidays

Chengdu is a city with a rich historical past, combined with a dazzling array of modern attractions. Here you’ll be able to visit museums such as the Sanxingdui Museum, with its exhibitions on ancient Shu culture; alternatively, marvel at the fascinating archaeological finds at the Jinsha Ruins. One of the more famous finds at this site is known as the ‘Golden Sun Bird’, and this remarkable creation is around 95% pure gold, and believed to be over three thousand years old.

  • Chengdu is home to a number of ancient temples and shrines, many of which represent the large Taoist influence on the city’s history. The Qingyang Taoist Temple for example is the largest of its kind in Southeast China, and this beautiful building contains a rare collection of Taoist scriptures. Then there’s the Wuhou Shrine… built around the turn of the 3rd century, this influential site offers a wealth of statues, carvings and religious monuments to be explored.
  • There are some superb breath taking monasteries around Chengdu; the Chengdu Daci Monastery, the 16th century Baoguang Monastery, and the beautiful, 1,300-year-old Wenshu Monastery.
  • If you’re looking for shopping opportunities during your visit to Chengdu, then head straight for Chunxi Road. This long commercial strip is located right in the heart of downtown Chengdu, and the historic street is lined with shopping centres, fashion outlets and other boutique stores.
