Zagreb at a Glance
Zagreb is a beautiful and vibrant city, with more museums per square foot than anywhere else, a rich cafe culture and many other attractions besides. By walking along cobbled streets surrounded by classically styled buildings, it often feels as though you are in a medieval city. So why not step back in time and experience the wonders of Zagreb?
You’ll want to visit Zagreb if you...
- ...want to explore a historic city.
- ...have a passion for arts and heritage.
- ...like to have easy access to the countryside.
Which area is right for you?
The two best areas where you can get involved in the life of Zagreb is the Upper and Lower parts of the town. Here you can find a variety of bars, restaurants, cafes, museums and theatres. If you like to get out and about in the fresh air then there’s plenty of nature parks in close proximity to the capital of Croatia.
- Zagreb is home to many museums, so you might find it difficult to choose one to suit you! However you can’t go far wrong by visiting the archaeology Museum, you’ll find Egyptian mummies, monuments from Greece and Rome, among the many delights.
- Do you enjoy the hustle and bustle of street markets? Why not drop into Dolac market? Over 80 years old, this highly rated food market is a must see.
- Medvednica Park, is close by Zagreb and offers tourists an opportunity to travel along wooded trails, visit medieval castles and generally refresh yourself.
Attractions on a Zagreb Holiday
Here are some of our recommended attractions to see:
- The Museum of Contemporary Art is Zagreb’s biggest and museum. It houses some of the best work from Croatia’s contemporary artists and really brings to the forefront what Croatia has to offer the art world.
- Visit Tkalciceva street to see traditional crafts and business thriving. There are many restaurants, cafes, and boutiques to view at your leisure.
- Zagreb has lots of parks to visit, but one of the best would have to be Maksimir Park. Dating back to the 18th Century this park has a mixture of oak woodland, decorative flower beds and monuments to see.
- Croatia has a fantastic live music scene and if you like jazz then the Zagreb Jazz Festival in November is for you.
- If you fancy something a bit more fast-paced, you should consider going to see the Snow Queen Trophy in January, a huge World Cup Slalom event.
