Protaras has become the must-visit destination in Cyprus, with an abundance of luxurious hotels and spa resorts to be found along both Sunrise Beach and Fig Tree Bay. These wonderful resorts leave you in a prime position with many local shops, spas and restaurants all within walking distance.

Holidays to Protaras have never been more sought after, so if you are seeking a more secluded stay, you can head a little north of Protaras to seek the peaceful hotels that are located near to Kalamies Beach. Beach beautiful

Protaris holidays begin on the beach. When you first step foot on the squeaky Blue Flag award sand, you know you made the right decision about where to spend your holiday. One of the biggest draws to the area is also, of course, the weather. Blessed with 340 days of beaming sunshine a year, this alone is why many choose this area for their Cyprus escape.

With all of the local amenities and accessibility of large resorts like Ayia Napa, but with a more relaxed nightlife, Protaras is a favourite among families and couples alike. Awash with water parks, live shows and aquariums, there is always something to keep the little ones busy.

With a fascinating history, Protaras offers plenty for the history lover to explore. The area was built over the old city of Lefkola, so even a short walk around town can lead you to discover a myriad of architectural delights. Far from being cut off, Protaras is positioned among a rugged landscape with 16km of coastline and the protected nature reserve of Cape Greco just a short drive from town.

Attractions

One of the most impressive sights in Protaras is Cape Greco. This is one of the most frequented sights in the region as it is visually stunning, and a protected nature park. There are remains of a Venetian lighthouse here, and about 300 different plant species to view, a large bird contingency and a number trails to explore. If you’re looking to escape the beach for a day, then visit Cape Greco, and you’ll be happy you did.

Water Sports

For those of you who love a little thrill, then you’re catered for as well, in Protaras. There are jet skis for hire, and access to water skiing, but if you’re looking for something that will really thrill, then join the paragliders, and sail high across the sea to catch a sight that most visitors in Protaras will never see

Festivals

A great festival to experience while in Protaras is the water festival, held over three days during the first weekend in June. This festival celebrates biblical events describing flooding of this region, with music, dances, poetry, boat races and more. Another great event not to be missed is the cultural festival, celebrating the strong folklore and poetry tradition of Protaras.

Nearby

For a great day out during a holiday in Protaras, pay a visit to Larnaca. Here you will find exceptional diving facilities and wonderfully blue water, an incredibly interesting salt lake where you might find flamingos, or a 9th century church to explore. Also, a great place to spend a day, and night, would be Ayia Napa. This is more of a beach resort, with pubs, bars and music setting the tempo of this destination. So, if you are looking to unwind with a bit of a party, then this is your place.
