History has certainly left its mark on Quimper, with much of its architecture centuries old and today housing; charming gift shops, cafes and attractions that make the town so pleasant to explore. On a sunny afternoon, take a picnic and go for a stroll through the floral parks and paths that line the city and the riverbank. Alternatively, check out some of the surrounding towns and villages to get taste of all that the region has to offer.
- Visit the Cathedral Saint-Corentin, the oldest and biggest of Brittany; its striking appearance and ornate interior make it definitely worth taking the time to look around properly.
- Gorge on the glorious sweet and savoury crepes from one of the many creperies scattered amongst the squares and side streets, or sample the treats of a typical French patisserie whilst you watch the world go.
- Make your match with nature and head out for a hike in the countryside around Mont Frugy, where you will find some great trails with excellent views of the town and the surrounding scenery
- Visit in July to catch the Festival or Cornouaille, an excellent display of Breton culture and very entertaining with much dancing, singing and performance to mark the occasion.
- Further downstream you will find some wonderful villages and towns similar to Quimper; the beautiful Locranan is perhaps even more magical than Quimper itself and has been voted as one of the most endearing villages in France. For a trip to the coast, Douarnenez is a small but popular resort with a traditional feel, great for a day at the seaside.
