Limousin Highlights

Limousin is separated into two provinces, with little villages spattered within, so there is somewhere and something to interest every visitor.

  • In Creuse you’ll find Aubusson, a fantastic village surrounded by forests, mountains and cascading rivers. This is a must for the nature enthusiast, but what really puts Aubusson on the map is the textiles industry that flourishes here. With tapestries that date back 400 years; this is an ideal place to visit for those love the craftier side of life.
  • Also in Creuse, is the capital of the province, and the region, Limoges. An old town, dating back to the early middle ages, pays homage to it’s past porcelain glory. Also, there is a museum dedicated to the French resistance, and splendid Gothic buildings to admire. Limoges is a great place to make as a base for your time in Limousin, or as a day trip, but however you decide, don’t miss it.
  • Though sombre, a trip to Oradour-Sur-Glane is a must. A town completely destroyed by the Germans during the Second World War, it is a historical relic that does not deserve to be overlooked.
  • In Correze you will find Tulle, a city with a rich heritage. Loyac's House and its medieval neighboring houses, Saint-Martin's Cathedral and its cloister's museum dedicated to the religious region history. Or, venture into Brive la Gaillarde to sample some of the regional food, or join in the fun on rugby match day.
