La Rochelle Highlights
With access from London by air, and a high-speed rail from Paris, getting to a Rochelle is easy. Once there, exploring the city is even easier. It is manageable by foot, or rented bicycle. Here are a few places you won’t want to miss once you get here;
- The Vieux Port, or Old Harbour, is the main feature in La Rochelle. With narrow lanes, and centuries old buildings, the Old Harbour is a wonderful place to see France’s historic past, in the flesh.
- Along the Old Harbour there is a promenade with plenty of restaurants. It is well lit, and a beautiful place to take an evening stroll. From the harbour you can take boat rides out to Fort Boyard, or the neighbouring islands.
- The Aquarium is reasonably priced, and a short walk from the Old Harbour. This is a particularly nice place to spend an afternoon if the weather turns poor. With the tour lasting two to three hours, this could be a great place to bring the family for an interesting, and educational day out.
- La Rochelle has wonderful shops selling local faire, arts and crafts boutiques and a distillery, where you can sample the local cognac.
