Karlsruhe Holidays 2012

Karlsruhe at a Glance

Karlsruhe is a busy city situated in the southwest of Germany in the scenic state of Baden-Württemberg, and boasts a wide selection of things to do and see in and around its centre. Popular for cultural city breaks, a holiday to Karlsruhe can involve anything from relaxing in botanical gardens to dancing the night away in the many bars and clubs.

You'll Love Karlsruhe if...

  • Your part of a group wanting to experience the nightlife.
  • The family fancy an alternative to a typical beach holiday.
  • Your looking for a cheap break with a short travel time.

Karlsruhe Highlights

The city centre boasts a host of gardens, galleries and historical sights with impressive architecture to match.

  • The central Marktplatz square is famous for its pyramid structure that marks the grave of the city’s founder, Margrave Karl Wilhelm, which to this day still contains his ashes. The kids will love the range of street entertainers here, while bustling markets allow you to haggle down the price of souvenirs on their busy stalls.
  • If your on a family holiday in Karlsruhe, a must visit is the City Garden and Zoo, which dates back to 1865. Especially famous for its world-class polar bear facilities, it also houses a range of animals including elephants, tigers and a range of sea life.
  • The Beer Castle houses the Hoepfner Brewery, which is famous in the region for producing locally brewed ales. When on holiday in Karlsruhe we recommend spending an hour of two in The Beer Castle’s famous restaurant or beer garden for a taste of German produce at its best.
  • Built in 1715 by Margrave Karl Wilhelm when the area was still populated with a dense forest, Karlsruhe Palace is now home to the Badische Landesmuseum, which displays year round exhibitions of Greek and Roman art as well as local history information.
  • The botanical gardens are well worth a visit on your budget Karlsruhe trip. Dating back to 1808, they have been lovingly nursed back to health after extensive damage in World War 2. Housing a vast selection of plant life including exotic palms, orchids and cacti from all over the world, they are the ideal place to visit to escape the bustle of the city centre for a couple of hours. As an added bonus, admission is also free.
