Bavaria Holidays 2012

Bavaria at a Glance

Glowing with all that Germany represents, a holiday to Bavaria offers the warmest of welcomes to anyone wanting to get to know the country better. One of the Germany’s largest and oldest states, its distinct and infectious culture sings of ‘eat, drink and be merry.’ Whether it be getting to know the locals in a traditional alehouse, sampling the indulgent delights of local cuisine or watching a folk performance, you’ll soon be wondering why you didn’t plan your Bavaria holiday sooner.

Exploring Bavaria

  • Bavarian culture is at its most vibrant in the bustling cities of the region, where the locals’ civic pride shines through in their eagerness to show you just why their city is so great. Squares, market places, old towns and, of course, alehouses, are all in abundance, meaning that a day spent wandering is a day well spent in a Bavarian city. Walk the ‘romantic road’ of Nordlingen, enjoy the litre mugs of beer at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich and in winter browse the beautiful Christmas market that Nuremburg is famed for. The cities are also host to some wonderful festivals; why not plan your visit to Munich for Oktoberfest, the world’s largest fair and a brilliant expression of German culture.
  • The region wouldn’t be the rich and exciting place it is today without an equally interesting past, and a holiday to Bavaria would not be the same without a trip to at least one of the castles, palaces, museums or galleries scattered in and around the cities. Neuschwanstein castle of all attractions is a must-see, as image which Walt Disney originally based the magical Cinderella Castle on. Some of Bavaria’s towns and cities are museums in themselves; Bamberg is an ancient world heritage site whilst Regensberg is a vibrant medieval town on the Danube. Germany preserves its heritage in a timeless and charming fashion through Bavaria.
  • Beyond the main attractions of the towns and cities though, lies a picturesque rural idyll of luscious green fields and forests, mountains and crystal lakes. Bavarian Forest National Park hides an abundance of wildlife, waterfalls and offers ample opportunity for walks and bike rides. At Lake Walchensee enjoy the world’s longest raft-slide, sailings and surfing, or take a canoe trip down the river Altmuhl. There is really a chance for a walk on the wild side on a holiday to Bavaria.
