• Dating back to the Roman era, there are plenty of Roman remnants to be found scattered around Regensburg. At the top of the list should be the Porta Praetoria, the remains of an old stone Roman fortress. Its huge arched gateway will send imaginations running wild. • After an afternoon of sight-seeing, head over to the tranquil Duke’s Park. Enjoy the many beautiful flowers and trees, and muse over the archaic 13 Century Prebrunn Tower also found in the park. Other notable parks, which nature-lovers will no doubt enjoy, include Villa Park and Eastern Avenue Park. In the summer months, you can also head over to the beer gardens found attached to most pubs.
• No visit to a Bavarian town would be complete without a visit to the Bavarian Forest, which is not too far away. Walking enthusiasts can follow the many trails and paths found across these grounds, and enjoy the forest’s unspoiled beauty. Pack the family into a rented car and spend the day picnicking in the Bavarian Forest.
