• Sanssouci Palace was built based on sketches by Frederick the Great in 1745. It is a great example of Rococo architecture or ‘late’ Baroque design. Inside the Palace, the gorgeous oval shaped Marble Hall and beautiful paintings promise to inspire. Afterwards, have a wander around the romantic and interesting Sanssouci Park, which is just next door and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• The little housing settlement of Alexandrowka is an intriguing sight. These 13 wooden Russian-style houses were built between 1826 and 1827, for members of the Russian choir from the First Prussian Regiment of the Guards.
• Since 1912, the Babelsberg Film Park in Potsdam has been a magical place made up of memorable films, beautiful costumes, and stunning sets. If you’re a film enthusiast, don’t forget to make a stop here. Take a peek behind the scenes with a guided tour or watch some of Germany’s best-loved shows live. The stunt show ‘Bartertown’ will impress adrenaline junkies, and the kids will thoroughly enjoy ‘Animal Farm’ and the ‘Sandman House.’
• The Extavium is an interactive science centre and makes a great day out for families with kids. They will have great fun making rockets, solar cells, and learning about space. Take a break from all the historical sites and work those curious little minds.
• An attraction for adults and kids alike is the Biosphaere, a centre where you can see and learn about wildlife. Check out the various greenhouses and follow the different paths! Along the way you will see everything from exotic plants and birds, to reptiles and insects. Don’t forget to bring the camera.
