In recent times it has gained status as a World Heritage Site, along with a statue of Roland, protector of the city. Visitors are encouraged to take a guided tour around this area where they will get the chance to hear some intriguing stories told by a local expert. Anybody with a fascination for history will also want to explore the Cathedral of St Peter, complete with a massive towered facade which looms large over the main square.
