Braunschweig Highlights
Braunschweig is jam packed with stunning buildings, museums and art galleries, but here are just a few attractions which we recommend visiting, during your stay;
- Dankwarderode Castle is well worth a visit during your time in Braunschweig. Once the residence of Henry the Lion, this building is a fine example of traditional German architecture and certainly worthy of an afternoon’s exploration.
- Holidays to Germany are all about the atmosphere, and those wanting to get a real taste of German life should spend an afternoon in Palace Square or Schlossplatz. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, a spot of shopping and enjoying a meal in one of the many cafes and restaurants.
- The area around Castle Square is also a must-see for all you culture vultures for this is where you’ll find the castle of Brunones on the Burgplazt, which dates back to before the 9th Century. Other sights include the fabulous neo-classical Vieweghaus and a collection of half-timbered buildings.
- Those interested in the arts will be spoilt for choice with various shows, exhibitions and events happening throughout the year at the State Theatre and the College of Fine Arts.
- The State Museum of Braunschweig, located in the heart of the pedestrian zone of the city, houses a permanent collection which documents the history of the city. It’s certainly worth a look and also plays host to an ever changing selection of temporary exhibitions.
