Wuppertal is a large city in the west of Germany in the North Rhine Westphalia region, situated to the east of the river Rhine and the city of Dusseldorf. The city itself is located in the Wupper valley on the steep sloping banks of the Wupper River. The highest point in the city is Lichtsheid standing at 350 metres above sea level.

Attractions on a Wuppertal Holiday
Wuppertal is a beautiful city perched above the Wupper River in one of the most popular regions in all of Germany. The exciting cities of Dusseldorf and Essen are easily accessible, and Wupppertal city itself is full of attractions, activities and entertainment; making it an ideal destination for a city break abroad.
- The Schwebebahn Wuppertal, better known as the Suspended Monorail is perhaps Wuppertal’s most famous and memorable landmark. The suspension railway is used as public transport and travels around 12 metres above the river Wupper joining the two sides of the city together.
- Wuppertal is the greenest city in Germany; over two thirds of the city is covered in greenery and parkland. It makes a wonderful change to be no more than ten minutes away from trees and grass at any point!
- Wuppertal Zoo is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. There are over 500 different species of animals housed at the zoo; among them are elephants, bears, lions and monkeys. There are also a large number of birds, including a penguin enclosure.
- The Von der Heydt Museum is an art gallery in the city which exhibits a large number of important and famous artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
- The Wuppertal Concert Hall is an excellent building for musical and theatrical performances that are held all year round.
