Malia Holidays

Malia holidays uncovered - insider tips

Whether you’re after a holiday to Malia that offers plenty of sun worshipping on the beach or an evening of late bars, pubs and nightclubs, lowcostholidays.com’s insider tips will help you discover your perfect holiday experience.

Spectacular nights out

The nightlife is buzzing here so you won’t be short of evening entertainment options. If you’re going to hit a club, try the “Banana Bar” on Malia Beach Road with its outdoor bar and a massive dance floor indoors. Check out the tricks that the barmen do from juggling fire to lighting up the bar! Other clubs to try include “Zig Zags” and “Candy Club”. Serious clubbers may want to check out the “Club UK” or why not try one of the foam parties at “Factory Club”.

Hidden Gems

If you want a break from the beach, follow the road to the mountains and you will reach the pretty village of Krasi. Here you will find stunning scenic views and a calmness away from the hustle and bustle – a real gem with springs and wooded slopes – well worth a visit.

How’s the shopping?

Well you’ll find the usual bits of souvenir and the holiday essentials like sun cream and buckets with spades in Malia. All shops are generally open from 9am-10pm, which is perfect if you run out of something and need to replace it quickly. If you want to pick up a souvenir, look out for locally made crafts such as lace, leather and fur.

Where can I get a burger?

For value for money, head to “Gringo’s” where you can sample some authentic Mexican food without breaking the bank. If you’re after local cuisine, we recommend “San Giorgio Restaurant” and “Kreta Taverna”. British cuisine can be found at many places, just take your pick.

Get in with the locals...

Going on holiday to a foreign country can be a daunting experience, so here’s some information for when you’re on your Malia holidays:

Can I drink the water?

  • We would recommend you stick to bottled water.

What’s the 999 number?

  • Crete emergency services can be contacted on 100.

Shall I pack the sun cream?

  • Malia gets hot in the summer time, so don’t forget to apply your high factor sun cream.

How do I get around?

  • You can get around mostly by foot or you could grab a taxi. If you want to explore you could hire a car for a few days.

Shall I learn the local lingo?

  • Most of the locals speak English, but you could always learn a couple of phrases.

Do I need to tip?

  • Tipping ranges from 5% to 10%, it's not compulsory and is entirely up to you.
