The unique town of Rethymnon sits in the middle of the north coast of Crete in Greece and 40 miles south-east of Chania. This beautiful university town blends tradition with modern day amenities and offers holidaymakers a holiday packed with culture, fascinating architecture and a fantastic beach. If this fits the bill for your summer holiday, book your holiday to Rethymnon now!
The fine white sand and shingle Rethymnon (or Rethymno) beach stretches a mighty 12 miles along the coast towards Perivolia, Platanes, Adelianos Kampos, Skaleta and Episkopi Beach. So you will have no problem finding a perfect spot to pitch your parasol and relax in the sun. The waters are mostly calm, which is ideal for children to paddle in and there is an excellent choice of water sport facilities available, such as water skiing and diving.
Rethymnon is a very interesting town to explore, with beautiful fountains, ancient ruins, picturesque churches, Venetian architecture and chic shops and boutiques, ideal for retail therapy on your holiday. It also has a fantastic 16th century fortress surrounding the old town that boasts amazing views of the harbour and the sea. For a great day out with the kids, head to the archaeological museum or why not visit one of the water parks on the island – the kids won’t want to leave!
A great way to get around the island is to hire a car. Why not follow the coastline and see where it takes you. Head to the ancient Minoan palace at Knossos, visit the bustling resort of Aghios Nikolaos, spend a day shopping in Heraklion, or why not take the kids to the Heraklion museum. There are so many fantastic restaurants and tavernas to choose from for a romantic evening meal and lots of bars to try for a taste of cosmopolitan Greece, so much choice on your Rethymnon holiday!
