Stalis has a sandy beach of its own that is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. Stalis is best known for its lovely sandy beaches, but the town also has a good selection of beach bars that are the perfect place to enjoy the Cretan sunshine during the day and a great spot to watch the evening turn into night. There are a number of excellent traditional style restaurants in the town and some great local tavernas.


For the most part visitors to Stalis spend the majority of their time relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach soaking up the famous Cretan sun and swimming. There are also a number of water sports available on the beach and on the beaches along the coast. If you fancy trying out diving there is a scuba diving centre which runs courses.


There are plenty of hotels to choose from in the town whether you are looking for a five star luxury or a self-catered apartment. Stalis is within easy reach of a number or popular resort towns and there are a few tour operators in the town that run day trips to the nearby towns. Malia is perhaps the most well-known resort on the island and is only 3 kilometres along the coast, the smaller town of Hersonissos is also only a few kilometres form the Stalis. Heraklion another popular town is only a 30kilometere drive from the town.

Water Sports

If you would prefer something a little more adrenaline filled than swimming and sunbathing there are a number of water sports available on Stalis Beach as well as on the beaches up and down the coast. There are opportunities for visitors to go parasailing and windsurfing and there groups can also go banana boating.


There are a number of events that take place in the town throughout the year and many of the events tend to coincide with religious festivals. The religious celebrations often involve processions and musical performances. There are also large carnivals on a number of occasions throughout the year where the entire town joins in the celebrations.


The town of Stalis is relatively new in to the majority of towns in the region; however there are still quite a few traditional style buildings in and around the town. There are a number of traditional Cretan churches in the town that are worth a visit. For a real taste of traditional island life head to one of the small fishing villages in the region.
