Lixouri Holiday Information
The second largest town on Kefalonia, Lixouri is located on the Paliki peninsula (although many call it the Lixouri peninsula) about 45 minutes drive around the coast from the capital of Argostoli.
A regular ferry service runs throughout the year between Lixouri and Argostoli, which makes a great day trip which is particularly cheap for foot passengers. Built around a port, a short walk inland and there is Lixouri Square lined on three sides with tavernas, restaurants and bars. The scenery on the peninsula is varied with dramatic cliffs dropping into the sea, red golden sand beaches as well as golden sand and shingle, and tiny Greek villages dotted throughout the hills of the Paliki peninsula.

Whilst you won’t find pretty beaches in the main town, the peninsula has a lot to offer. Petani is a Blue Flag beach and is as beautiful as Myrtos beach near Assos where white pebbles shelve into the cobalt blue sea. Petani Beach is generally uncrowded and has two tavernas. Not far from Soullari village and adjoining Xi beach, is Megas Lakkos. Together these beaches stretch for about 7 km and consist of fine red sand and shallow water, with a snack bar available as well as sunbed and umbrella hire. Blue Flag Xi beach is the place to go for water sports and boat hire. The long sandy beach is the most popular, but did you know that if you scrape clay from the rocks, mix it with water and cover your body with the mud, it is thought to be very good for your skin?
