Heading north from Skala on the east coast of Skiathos, is the small port town of Poros. Often missed by Kefalonia’s visitors, picturesque Poros has three pebbly beaches which are generally deserted. Poros port serves as a link to Patras and the port of Killini, and there is a lovely square full of tavernas, restaurants and shops.
The view of Ithaki (Ithaca) is superb, but head west to the Straits of Poros for fantastic views of the mountains and tiny Kefalonian villages. Poros is perfect for relaxing on the beach, yet with the many facilities and shops nearby will suit couples and families alike. There is an excellent choice of restaurants offering tasty Greek dishes and international cuisine, with a nightlife that is laid back and calm, although there is one open air disco a short distance from Poros.

Poros’ beaches in Kefalonia cover two curves of the long bay around the town’s edge and comprise of a mixture of pebbles, stones and shingle. Whilst not particularly pretty beaches compared to others on the island, the sea is clear and clean, and sunbeds are available to hire. For wider varieties of beaches, head south towards Skala, where you will find many little coves and eventually the vast expanse of sandy Skala beach.
