Rebuilt in traditional Venetian style after the 1953 earthquake, Zante Town (or Zakynthos Town) is located on the east coast of Zakynthos (or Zante) and is an interesting mix of tavernas, bars, shops and homes built around a large central harbour.
There are four main squares in Zakynthos Town, with the favourites being Solomos Square with its impressive art museum and St Markos Square with the Solomos Museum. Zakynthos Town is a great base from which to explore Zakynthos island and car hire is recommended if doing so.
One of the closest resorts to Zakythos Town is Argassi on the south coast which has a huge choice of international eateries and bars, plus a small beach. The party town of Laganas is about 11 km south of Zankynthos Town, with Argassi and Tsilivi about 5 km away.
When on holiday in Zakynthos Town take a trip to the Blue Caves where the sunlight reflects off the white rocks into the clear blue water; boats may be hired from Agios Nikolaos in Zante.
