Tabanan at a Glance
Covering an area across Midwest Bali, in Indonesia, is Tabanan, a breathtaking landscape of rolling hills and lush green valleys, set against the backdrop of the striking Mount Batukaru.
Ideal For...
- A hot beach break with some breathtaking landscape.
- Couples who want a romantic destination where they can enjoy some unique moments and explore the surrounds.
- Adventurers who would like to discover and experience Indonesia.
Explore Tabanan
- Bali is filled with spiritual and religious landmarks, and there is no shortage of these in Tabanan. Visit the Pura Luhur Batukaru, a temple, which has sat on the mountains’ slopes ever since the 11th century. The movement of misty clouds and haze around its elevated foundation only heightens its spiritual atmosphere.
- The mountains surrounding the temple are a great place to explore further. You can hike and mountain climb your way to the peak, seeing dense forest and wetland along the way. With such a different environment to the rest of the island, it is not recommended to climb during the wet season, when the paths become awash with running streams.
Why a Tabanan Holiday?
- There are a choice of sandy beaches along the coast of the island, in southern Tabanan, and the most popular is Yeh Gangga. With a never ending view of the Indian Ocean, slick black sand and a dazzling sunset, it’s the ideal place to soak up some rays. You can also ride across the sand on horseback, following through rice fields and traditional villages, to finally enjoy some lunch overlooking the shore.
- Enjoy some of the wildlife sites on holiday in Tabanan. You can visit the Bali Butterfly Park, where hundreds of rare and endemic species flutter around the natural setting. Visit in the morning to witness their most active part of the day.
- Alternatively the Sangeh Monkey Forest is definitely worth a visit. The 17th century temple that sits here, coincides with the legend that the monkeys are descendents of monkey king Hanuman’s army. Be cautious of these cheeky creatures though, as you may find unwatched belongings start to go missing.
- Enjoy the rich landscape through your sightseeing journeys. The north of the island is a great example, go past rice fields, mountain scenes, and traditional villages. Alternatively visit Gianyar for another beautiful destination from which you can explore more of what Bali has to offer.
