The most popular attraction in Caserta is the Royal Palace, which is a former royal residence. Constructed for the Bourbon kings of Naples, it was the largest palace and one of the largest buildings erected in Europe during the 18th century, and in 1997, the Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every year it draws tourists from all over the world, and is so impressive that it has been used as a set for a number of films, including Star Wars and Mission Impossible.
The grounds in which the palace stand are spectacular, and shouldn’t be missed by anyone with an interest in Continental gardens. The park is 3.2 kilometres long and contains many waterfalls, lakes and gardens, as well as a very famous English garden.
