Overview
Completed in 2008, this old 15th century palace has been converted into a superb luxury hotel after a long restoration period lasting 5 years. The palace once belonged to Conti Gattini, of a noble family from Matera. Before the 18th century, the palace was also a convent; in fact, one of the junior suites has a Renaissance portal that joined the palace with a pontiff's court. Cream is a dominant colour in the hotel because it is the colour of the chalky stone prevailing in Matera's landscape, and almost all houses in the area were built with this type of stone. The colours of the furniture range from black and grey to cream, but in every room there are contrasting draperies of splendid silk: orange, blue and mustard green. The hotel has a prestigious wine bar, situated in the old wine cellars, as well as a very spectacular cheese room where nobles used to age cheese; this room has now become a special showcase for typical Lucanian products. The charming, air-conditioned hotel has 20 rooms, and guests are welcomed into a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out service. Facilities include a hotel safe, cloakroom, hairdressing salon, TV lounge and WLAN Internet access. For dining and drinks, guests can enjoy the on-site café, bar and restaurant. Currency exchange facilities and conference facilities are also offered, as are room and laundry services. For a fee, guests may park their car in the hotel garage.
Location
The splendid Piazza Duomo affords a very special view of Sasso Barisano, and the hotel is situated here, in the heart of ancient Civita, in a unique position on the spur which divides the 2 Sassi. Thanks to its convenient central location, all the main historical and cultural places of interest, museums, squares and monuments can easily be reached on foot, as can the boutiques, craft shops and restaurants in the city centre.
Rooms
The hotel has luxury rooms, deluxe rooms, junior suites and suites, one of which has a private swimming pool on an adjoining terrace with enchanting views over the Sassi districts. Each room is en suite with shower/bath and hairdryer, and other amenities include a double or king-size bed, direct dial telephone, satellite/cable TV, radio, hifi, Internet access and a minibar. Air conditioning, a balcony or terrace and a safe also feature as standard.
Sport
The Wellness Centre was created in some of the oldest parts of the complex. The centre offers a sauna, a hammam, an indoor swimming pool with spa baths and different rooms for body beauty treatments and Ayurvedic massages (fees apply to massage treatments). Guests may also play golf for a fee.
Meals
The hotel has a restaurant where guests can taste traditional local cuisine made with quality products. All meals are offered in buffet form. Additionally, lunch and dinner may be enjoyed à la carte or as a set menu.
Payment
This establishment accepts American Express, MasterCard and VISA as methods of payment.
