Isola Bella was developed by Count Vitaliano Borromeo who started construction of the monumental baroque palace in 1670. Isola dei Pescatori or Fisherman’s Island is rustic and simplistic in its architecture with some super fish restaurants and named after the main trade of its inhabitants.

Isola Madre is the largest of the Borromeo Islands; a peaceful location with exotic plants and birds, and a 16th century palace. Colourful flowers and palm trees line the lakeside at Stresa, sprinkled with remarkable old villas. There is an amazing array of architecture to be discovered around Stresa and it is easy to just hop on a water taxi or steamer to take you to one of the other lovely towns and villages on Lake Maggiore.
