Holidays in Capri, Campania
The gorgeous Italian island of Capri sits off the western mainland on the south side of the Gulf of Naples close to Sorrento and Naples, and within the region of Campania.
Most head to the City of Capri when they arrive on the island by boat, arriving at the harbour of Marina Grande then taking a funicular up to the village. The area of Anacapri is on the west of Capri in the hills.
Explore the island of Capri
The Capri coastline is quite dramatic with steep grass topped cliffs disappearing into the clear blue sea. Hiring a boat is the best way to explore the coast of Capri as the loveliest parts are inaccessible by foot. A trip not to be missed when on holiday in Capri is to the Blue Grotto or Grotta Azzurra which is an intriguing sea cave partially underwater where the water is a brilliant clear blue colour.
On Capri there were twelve Imperial Romana villas; today you may visit the ruins of Villa Damecuta in Anacapri. Also in Anacapri is the La Casa Rossa; a red castle like building where you can view numerous antique artefacts and paintings.
The jet set love the island of Capri and whilst the streets are filled with character they are lined with expensive boutiques and upmarket restaurants.
Whilst on holiday in Capri how about taking a helicopter tour of the island, a walking tour or a boat trip – or you could miss so much of this beautiful Italian island?
Beaches in Capri
You won’t find long stretches of sandy beach in Capri, but you will find wonderful hidden beaches and coves, some only accessible by boat that are beautifully set in their natural state. The most famous Capri beach is on the bay of Marina Piccola with views of the Faraglioni rocks. The Bagni Hotel owns the beach but provides a more secluded part for its guests and there are a number of superb restaurants to enjoy overlooking this small Capri beach.
