The Montecatini Area in Tuscany is split into two areas; Monsummano Terme, home to the famous Italian health resorts, thermal springs and caves, and Montecatini Alto, the original location of Montecatini, a hill top village above Terme linked to it by funicular railway.
Montecatini Alto perched on the hill of High Monsummano is a medieval village and the ideal location for an authentic Tuscan holiday and base from which to discover the beautiful treasures of the region and surrounding cities. When on holiday in Montecatini Alto do visit the Santa Maria a Ripa Church and Convent; fascinating historical buildings from the 12th and 16th centuries. Near to Montecatini Alto’s St Peter’s church is a fortress or Tramontana.

The resort of Monsummano Terme located downhill from Montecatini, is set in wonderful surroundings with a fine sprinkling of historical buildings, interesting culture and pleasant walks. In Monsummano Terme you will find the Church of San Nicolao, the Shrine of the Madonna of Fontenuova, the house of the poet Giuseppe Giusti and Martini’s Villa.
When on holiday in the Montecatini area, make sure you take a good pair of walking boats as there are many wonderful walks not only through the villages and towns but through the countryside too.
