As Japanese cities go, Sapporo is certainly one of the youngest and this is reflected in its modern buildings, eclectic mix of attractions and general atmosphere. It’s the capital of Hokkaido and Japan’s fifth largest city and offers a mix of tradition and modernity appealing largely to young travellers.

Why Sapporo?
- Sapporo is an interesting city of contrasts. Well known for its beer and ramen, it epitomises modern Japan but still has a pinch of traditional charm to satisfy all tastes. Its proximity to some of Japan’s best ski resorts also gives a stay here a bit of a twist so why not combine a city break with a few days on the slopes. It also has a distinct cuisine quite different from the rest of the country relying heavily on natural flavours and ingredients and crabs, scallops and salmon are local specialities.
