Activity Holidays

Explore Lanzarote

Lanzarote may be a small island, but there is so much to explore. If you are looking for family activity holidays then Lanzarote boasts hiking and cycling routes, with volcanic views and valleys that are second to none. For adventure holidays and adreniline junkies, the exposed coastline of the island provide the perfect conditions for paragliding, windsurfing and kiteboarding.

Walking and Hiking

Hiking is encouraged by the government in Lanzarote and they have put together a series of routes known as 'serendos', that show off the best off the islands beauty. You can pick up these up from the tourist office. They vary in difficulty and length, from a leisurely stroll to eight hour hikes.

  • We Recommend: Costa Teguise has some excellent walking routes along some stunning coastline.

Cycling

There are also cycling routes that are an excellent way of exploring the less touristy sides of the island. Don't be put off by the hills, the views at the top will make it worth it and more often than not the sea will be close by for a refreshing dip. The year round warm weather and varied terrain attracts professional cyclists for training in the winter months.

  • We Recommend: Puerto del Carmen is a great base from which to explore the island, with Rent a Bike from €6 for children.

Surfing

The surf at Famara Beach is second to none and the island is known as the Hawaii of Europe. See our Lanzarote surfing page for all the information you could ever need.

Extreme Sports

For thrill seekers there are plenty of sports on offer to get the adreniline pumping. Paragliding, surfing and windsurfing all take advantage of the strong winds from the Atlantic Ocean.

  • We Recommend: Matagorda has the best beaches for extreme sports as it is exposed to strong winds from the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Stay at the Sol Lanzarote
  • Water Sports

There are a wide variety of beaches in Lanzarote, ranging from golden sands with shallow slopes, ideal for a gentle paddle, to black volcanic beaches and rocky coastline, where you can snorkel and dive. The warm, crystal clear waters mean that you can see all sorts of colourful fish, and might even spot some of the resident angel sharks.

    • We Recommend: Playa Blanca has the largest sandy beaches on the island and is excellent for swimming.

    • Stay at the Sun Park Aparthotel
