Puerto del Carmen

This large resort in the south of the island has three main beaches, Playa Grande, Matagorda and Playa de los Pocillos. These long stretches of golden sands have plenty of sun loungers to soak up the year round Canarian sun, where ice cream vendors bring the ice cream to you! They are Blue Flag recommended and have shallow slopes, perfect for paddling with children.

There are a range of watersports available at Playa de los Pocillos, the gentle waves lending themselves perfectly to beginner surfers.

Playa Blanca

The promenade behind this pretty beach is lined with restaurants, bars and cafes, perfect for hiding from the midday sun and sipping a refreshing cool drink, looking out over the beach. The nearby Rubicon Marina has some excellent restaurants for an evening meal after a long day at the beach.

Famara

This volcanic beach boasts an impressive setting, with views of the surrounding mountains. The beach here is more exposed and is a surfers and windsurfers paradise. Here you will find surf schools with lessons and equiptment for hire for all levels of ability.

Costa Teguise

Head to Playa de las Cucharas for crystal clear waters, ideal for snorkelling and diving. There is a shipwreck to explore with many diving excursions leaving from the beaches here. This beach is popular with families, with long streches of sand to enjoy sunbathing and sandcastle building.

Restaurants in Lanzarote

This is the longest beach on Lanzarote, at 3km long there are a few shops and cafes here to cater for the large surf community. There are a couple of seafood restaurants here, but if it is nightlife you are looking for then you should look to Puerto del Carmen or the resorts in the south.

Lanzarote is known as the Hawaii of Europe because of the quality of the surf here. There are regular surf competitions held here and there are schools and shops to cater for all abilities.
