Malta holidays uncovered- Insider Tips
Malta is a great holiday if you’re looking for a country steeped in culture and history with gorgeous weather and the opportunity to relax and experience the nightlife. lowcostholidays.com provides top secret insiders tips for your holiday to Malta.
Malta nights out
If you’re looking for a night to remember in Malta, there is only one place to see and be seen. St Julian’s is the essential resort for you. We recommend Axis Bar – a huge place that attracts famous DJ’s and uses a high tech system of lasers and strobe lights to make you feel like you’re in Star Wars. Playing the latest floor fillers of recent years you’ll soon be pretending you’re in a Lady Gaga video whilst you sip drink or two.
Outside of St Julian’s Malta is a lot more relaxed night to enjoy. Most hotels provide entertainment in the resort including quizzes and karaoke, alternatively you’ll find a selection of bars and clubs throughout most resorts.
Hidden Gems
Not quite hidden, but a must-do on your trip to Malta – Blue Grotto. It has nothing to do with a Santa switching teams; instead it offers some of the most breath taking scenery that Malta has to offer.
How’s the shopping?
St Julian’s and Sliema are both home to shopping centres with international fashions at reasonable prices. Furthermore most resorts have their own personal market where you can experience the unique culture the market offers as well as some eccentric buys!
If you’re a jewellery fan check out the world renowned Maltese craftsmanship, where you can find some fantastic deals for presents for those you have left at home.
Food glorious food…
Most resorts in Malta offer everything you could want food-wise on a holiday. They cater for the masses with a selection of restaurants aimed at British tourists. If you want something a little more authentic, Malta has excellent cuisine thanks to their Sicilian neighbours. Malta also serves the speciality of rabbits, we reccomend trying the stew.
When to go
High season is mid June to august and is popular for the “festa season". Easter also enjoys warm weather, and April to June has fewer tourists and cheaper prices. September to November enjoys cooler days but plenty of sunshine!
The mandatory worries
Travelling to a foreign country can be a daunting prospect, so here is some important information to remember when you’re on your holiday to Malta:
Can I drink the water?
- You can drink it, but rising sea levels are affecting Malta’s underground water system, so try and stick to bottled water. It’ll also taste much better.
What’s the 999 number?
- Malta emergency services can be contacted on 112.
Shall I pack the sun cream?
- Dear lord, yes. Malta is infamous for the level of heat it can reach, particularly in the summer. Unless you like going around looking like a tomato, pack lots of sun cream.
How do I get around?
- Malta has a wonderful bus system, consisting of old buses exported by Britain. They are cheap and get across the small island quickly. If you prefer a little more heat friendly method of transport, taxis are very cheap, but most should be booked in advance.
Shall I learn the local lingo?
- There is really no need as most people will speak good English. A few phrases will get you a smile or two from the locals though.
Do I need to tip?
- It’s not compulsory, but adding a little 5-10% is a good idea if you’re happy.
