Beaches in Merida:
- There isn’t any beaches in Merida itself but nearby there in Progreso, which is only half hour away, there are lovely beaches which are clean and emerald green (except in the winter months when the winds and tides stir up the water and toss seaweed on shore). There is also no undertow in the water, which means it is a pleasure to swim there.
Merida Activities:
- Merida holidays are filled with a rich colonial past. You can spend long days sightseeing at the museums, theatres and parks. Or take a stroll to the picturesque Santa Lucia Park.
- To comfortably sightsee the main attractions of Merida, one of the best options is on board a double decker bus. There are many historical places to see on route, such as the historic centre, Cathedral, Paseo de Montejo, Museum of Anthropology and the Monument to the Flag. Your ticket allows you to use the Turibus as many times as you want, just hop on and off at the pre-designated bus stops and explore the city to your heart's content.
Merida Nightlife:
- When night falls on Merida, the city streets come alive as locals and tourists go out for an evening in the many bars, restaurants, public parks, plazas and clubs of this beautiful colonial city. The music selection varies from place to place ranging from romantic ballads to the hottest pop and rock. From a wild night out to a quiet romantic evening, Merida has the perfect option for everyone.
- According to regular clubbers, El Cielo is the trendiest nightspot in the city, a place to enjoy a chic atmosphere and dance the night away with the hottest DJs.
Popular Attractions on Holidays to Merida:
- In the downtown Historic Centre, you can visit the city cathedral, an impressive 16th century construction, or interesting museums, such as the Yucatan Museum of Archaeology, which you’ll find in Palacio Canton. You can also take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage down the city’s main avenue, Paseo Montejo, which is lined with 19th century mansions and well-known hotels.
- Centenario Park is an obligatory visit while in Merida and a suitable place for a family outing. It features a zoo, a skating rink, a small lake and a train that takes you on a ride around the park and through a tunnel.
- Nearby Progresso has one of the world's largest nesting grounds for the pink flamingo. You can take a boat trip on the "ria" and admire hundreds of flamingos and up to 320 species of birds.
