Veracruz Holidays

Veracruz Attractions

If you’re planning a cheap Veracruz holiday with your family or friends, and need a bit of inspiration, lowcostholidays.com can help you out with these handy tips on what to do when you get there.

Beaches in Veracruz

  • The best beaches are found a little way out of the centre. Just South of the city, Mocambo has excellent beaches with fine, pale sand.
  • A little further out, Boca del Rio is a small fishing village just down from Mocambo. Take a taxi to this sleepy village and enjoy the ocean.
  • Further south and even more secluded is the beach at Mandinga – a good place to go if you want to get away from other tourists!

Veracruz activities

  • Take in the city’s historic architecture, such as the cathedral and palace. It’s worth visiting Fort San Juan de Ulua, which has been converted into a fascinating museum.
  • Walk along the huge boardwalk where every year the city’s carnival takes place and take in the fabulous views. This is a popular place for a stroll day or night, and is usually full of merchants selling jewellery and other souvenirs.
  • Relax in the main plaza with a good cup of coffee and watch the vibrant crowds go by.

Veracruz nightlife

  • Nightlife at Veracruz starts at the ‘danzon’, a passionate Caribbean dance performed outdoors in the evenings here. Live bands play in the town square while couples dance along to the rhythm, and pedestrians gather around the plaza to watch the lively spectacle.
  • If you want to party through till dawn, the many nightclubs in Veracruz offer a huge range of music, from salsa, blues and reggae to electronic, disco and rock music.
  • For a more unusual night out, on the outskirts of the city you can often find the fandangos of Sotavento, popular religious dances where crowds improvise together, tapping their feet on the wooden floorboards.

Popular attractions on holidays to Veracruz

  • Veracruz Aquarium is the biggest and best in Latin America, boasting a Freshwater Gallery featuring exhibitions of sharks and manatees, and a Salt Water Gallery dedicated to species from the Red Sea and Pacific Ocean.
  • Visit the City Museum, filled with exhibits about the history of the city.
  • Enjoy the excellent restaurants. The city is a real Spanish, Caribbean and African melting pot, and as a result you can get some incredible food here.
