The ruins are a real piece of history and can be seen from the beach. This is an excellent starting point if you decide you’d like to explore more Mayan history.

The Playa Linda has something aside from soft sand and warm water however. From the beach you can take a submarine ride to Isla Mujeres, a buzzing little town ideal for shopping and sightseeing.

Want a thrilling way to see the surrounding jungles?

Hop on an ATV and take a white knuckle ride through the ancient jungle before exploring an underground cave and freshwater sinkhole. The tour finishes up on the shores of Cozumel Island where you can snorkel, sunbathe or simply kick back and revel in one of the most gorgeous locations on earth.

Cancun, like many beach destinations, does its very best to provide food to suit every taste and budget.

For a true taste of the region however, try the fantastically fresh local seafood. If you have money to spare, the lobster, scallops and langoustines are second to none but there’s plenty more excellent eats on offer.

Classic Mexican staples are joined by a range of international cuisines such as Italian and Asian as well as cheap and delicious local delicacies you can find on the street.

When it comes to nightlife, Cancun not only boasts the biggest club in Latin America, but an incredible selection of bars and dance-dens to choose from .
