Perfect Holidays in Geilo
Geilo is full of character, and primarily a ski resort boasting great facilities, making it perfect for beginners and families. If you’re after something a little more relaxing, then a range of quiet pursuits are also on offer.
- Geilo has four main skiing areas which have a range of terrain for all abilities, including a snowboard section and cross-country trails. Slaatta has the best nursery areas with wide green piste making it suitable for families. The runs in Geilo are gentle and wide, and great for complete beginners or less confident skiers.
- From Havsdalen, it is possible to access the highest point in the area, and here there are slopes to suit all abilities, including a cross-country track. There is a good choice of terrain in Geilo, the runs are not long, but are varied. There is also 5km of flood-lit slope for those who like skiing in the evening.
- A popular day out away from the slopes, and sure to entertain the kids is at the Geilolia climbing park, where a range of frames and playground activities will keep them occupied for hours.
- There are a handful of bars and restaurants in the resort and on the weekend, it becomes more lively with some bars playing live music.
Geilo Highlights
- Hol Old Church is situated 15 minutes from Geilo. The church was originally a small stave church but has been expanded several times. It makes for a beautiful place to spend an hour or two walking around.
- For your inner explorer, make sure to book a guided trekking tour on Hardangerjøkulen, the sixth largest glacier in Norway. The tour takes around 10 hours, and will give you the chance to capture the most spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
- Back in the centre of town, take the family to visit Geilojorget, a 17th century farm which is open for guided tours. This is a fun learning experience for all, and there are cultural activities such as folk music shows to entertain. An on-site café provides local dishes for lunch.
