Lillehammer is famous for its ski terrain and excellent winter sport facilities. With easily accessible forest and mountain terrain, it is the perfect holiday destination for group and family skiing holidays.
- Kvitfjell is just 45 minutes north of Lillehammer, and includes good facilities such as cafes and equipment hire, with alpine slopes on either side of the mountains. It is perfect for all levels of ability, with 29km of alpine trails, and also includes an Olympic downhill run.
- Gålå, one hour north of Lillehammer, is suitable for families and groups with varying demands and ability. It is the ideal choice for cross-country skiing, as it has 230 kilometres of trails. For the more advanced, there is also a terrain park with Big Jump area and challenging rails.
- Hafjell offers an Olympic arena with varied skiing. The three terrain parks offer challenges for all levels of abilities, and it is a favourite for snowboarders. At the top of the hills, you will find cross-country skiing trails leading to the mountain.
- Away from the slopes, Lillehammer is also known for it’s shopping, and most of the shops are located on Storgata Street, in the heart of the old city centre. Here you will find shops selling local and international products. Look out for paintings or prints of the city’s beautiful views.

- Lake Mjøsa is the largest lake in Norway, and one of the deepest in Europe. Make sure you take a trip on Skibladner, the world’s oldest paddle steamer, which was built in 1856, for a ride across these famous waters.
- Lysgårdsbakkene is the town's most famous landmark, and is a popular spot for taking pictures. From the open air terrace you can enjoy panoramic views of Lillehammer town and Lake Mjøsa. There is a chairlift up to the top, and for those keen on a bit of exercise, why not take the 954 steps up to the top of the hill.
- The Norwegian Olympic Museum is the only museum in northern Europe that shows the history of the Olympic Games from its ancient roots, up to the present day. The museum is located in Håkons Hall, and is a great way to learn about Lillehammer’s Olympic history.
