Great Family Holidays in Muscat

Muscat is the enigmatic capital city of Oman, and divided into several districts. Temperatures are always warm and this Gulf city offers plenty of history and tradition for couple and groups to enjoy.

  • One of the most popular areas of the city is the coastal district of Muscat. It is very traditional, and the Sultan's palace is located here. A few leisurely days can be spent walking around the atmospheric alleyways, and exploring the good variety of shops and restaurants.
  • Mutrah is another popular district and very similar to Muscat. Here you will be greeted with plenty of traditional sights such as the historic souk, which is one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arab region. Be sure to spend a few hours at this colourful and vibrant market, and perhaps pick up a treasure or two to take home.
  • The Corniche in Muttrah is Muscat's renowned atmospheric and charming harbour. There are fruit and fish markets, and a 3 kilometre beach road with excellent views to leisurely walk along.
  • Ruwi is the financial hub of Muscat. Some of the streets here are less traditional due to rebuilding in the 1970's, and there are now alot of commercial shops here. If you want to do some shopping away from the markets, head to one of the up-market shopping malls.
