Pride of Portugal

Algarve holidays will have you indulging in Portugal’s premier tourist destination, so expect great infrastructure, a vibrant atmosphere, and of course, an endless stream of natural beauty. It is easy to see why this southern region has become so popular with holidaying families and couples, especially when you bear witness to the blue waters, stretching sands and dramatic cliffs that characterise the Algarve’s alluring coastline.

While the beaches unsurprisingly provide the main draw for flocking tourists, you’ll find a great deal to this wonderful region of Portugal that doesn’t necessarily involve getting sandy feet. Traditional and historic cities and towns tower over the ocean, promising cultural highlights and a culinary scene to die for, while active holidaymakers will revel in the region’s adventurous ethos – a mainstay of anybody’s holidays to the Algarve.

For a Cultural and Historical Flavour

Your holidays in the Algarve will begin in the city of Faro, but moving on to the likes of Albufeira or Lagos will base you in a lively destination with more than its fair share of attractions and plenty of luxury hotels. The former is one of the region’s most touristic areas, offering a multitude of beaches alongside a charming old town feel and a vibrant nightlife. Lagos offers more of the same, with an energetic water sports and outdoor adventures culture, mingling with that of a bygone era. Traditional architecture and colours adorn the historical city centre, marked by the old city walls.

Outside of the primary destinations, numerous traditional towns and villages are dotted along the expansive coastline of the Algarve, displaying a more authentic way of life that is easily overshadowed by the region’s modernised infrastructure. Olhas de Agua is a great example of a destination retaining its traditional charm yet catering to the tourism influx. This is also one of the best places to try some of the region’s prized culinary assets, in particular the wonderful piri piri chicken – you’ll never need to go to a Nando’s again!

Beaches and Outdoor Adventure

Golf enthusiasts have long embarked on Algarve holidays, challenging themselves on some of the finest golf courses in the whole of Europe. The region has become synonymous with golf breaks, offering those that pack their clubs some luxury treatment at top of the range golf resorts, blessed with stunning coastal views and beautiful landscapes. Golf isn’t the only activity you’ll discover away from the beach; there is also a great mountain biking scene in the Algarve, allowing visitors to explore the region’s beautiful inland scenery.

Inevitably you’ll find yourselves down by the water at some point during your holidays to the Algarve, and around Albufeira and Lagos there’s so much to do, you could spend the entire holiday in and around the water. Water sports are rife around Lagos, with a great surfing scene supported by sea kayaking and windsurfing, while others may just prefer to lay on the sandy bays around Albufeira and catch some rays.

Feel the Romance

Nothing spells romance like a walk along the beach, and during Algarve holidays you’ll find countless options when it comes to soaking up coastal vistas, whether from the walking paths on the cliffs around Olhas de Agua or from one of Albufeira’s waterfront restaurant as the sun sets – the perfect setting for that holiday selfie.

Nightlife

This particular region of Portugal offers just as much fun at night as it does during the day. Hit the hustle and bustle of Albufeira’s party hub with your significant other and let your hair down with a dance and a cocktail or two.

Recharging your batteries while on your couples holidays in the Algarve will not be an arduous task. Numerous spa facilities await your presence, so whether you fancy grabbing a massage together or just some time soaking up the bubbles in a Jacuzzi with a glass of champagne – you’ll find the perfect treatment for you.
