Perfect for Couples

As well as the main beach there are a handful of other sandy beaches worth exploring such as Praia de Manta Rota and the blissfully undeveloped Praia de Cacela Velha. The town itself is large and lively with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants for couples to discover.

Attractions

Couples will never be bored as the town is large and well worth exploring. Take a stroll along the promenade, pick a beach bar and relax with a cocktail, or for something more energetic have a go at one of the many water sports on offer.

Cycling is an ideal way of exploring the surrounding countryside due to the terrain being nice and flat. Get back to nature and see what wildlife you can spot in the local nature reserve.

Nightlife

The nightlife in Monte Gordo is perfect for couples wanting to chill out over a meal with a glass of wine. There are plenty of good restaurants in the town serving everything from fresh fish and seafood to local Portuguese fare and even Indian cuisine.

There are numerous bars and nightclubs along the seafront promenade and the main avenue, and if you're feeling lucky then head to the town's casino.

Hotels

The Yellow Praia Monte Gordo has a fantastic location just a short stroll away from a beautiful stretch of sandy beach.

The large 4-star hotel has a whole host of facilities and amenities that couples can enjoy including not one but three outdoor swimming pools, two restaurants, a lounge and a pool bar, a casino and a sauna.

Monte Gordo Family

Fun Beach Holidays

Monte Gordo lies on the eastern coast of the Algarve and is a bustling resort just 3 kilometres along the coast from Spain.

With a wide, safe beach and a palm-tree, lined promenade dotted with restaurants, this is a great base for a family holiday. The large town has a spacious centre with cobbled pedestrian areas where there are plenty of shops and places to eat, drink and relax.

Things to Do in Monte Gordo

Take a boat trip along the Guadiana, the river that lies between Portugal and Spain, and soak up not only the sunshine but the beautiful surroundings. Join a Jeep safari and head into the Castro Marim Nature Reserve and along the coast to Zonazul Beach.

There are plenty of golf courses for enthusiasts and beginners alike within driving distance of Monte Gordo, or simply spend the day soaking up the sun on one of the sandy beaches along this eastern Algarve coast.

Beaches

The resort's own beach of Praia de Monte Gordo is a fine sandy beach and is easily accessible as it has flatter terrain then elsewhere in the Algarve with sand dunes rather than cliffs ensuring it is family friendly.

The proximity to Spain and the Mediterranean also means that the water is a lot warmer than it is further west, ideal for kids to splash about in. Further along the coast is the undeveloped and beautiful Praia Verde Beach and the exciting Praia de Manta Rota.

Hotels

The 3-star, family-friendly Casablanca Inn is only three minutes away on foot from the beach, restaurants and shops.

Inspired by Morocco, the hotel is richly decorated in warm colours and has an exotic feel about it. It's a fun place to stay, with a large outdoor swimming pool, a relaxing lounge bar and a restaurant with pool views.

Monte Gordo Highlights

Best Beach

Praia de Manta Rota is a superb sandy beach that stretches for 10 kilometres from the village of Manta Rota.

Backed by sand dunes and reached by wooden walkways the beach is easily accessible and although quieter than the main Monte Gordo beach there are still plenty of restaurants, cafés and beach bars for when you want to take a break from sunbathing.

Top Attraction

The Transguadiana River Cruise involves a relaxing day on a boat cruising down Guadiana, the river that separates Portugal from Spain.

There's interesting and entertaining English commentary and a leisurely lunch stop in a village along the river where wine and a barbecue lunch at a local restaurant are provided.

Top Restaurant

It may not be quite what you'd expect to be eating in a Portuguese resort, but the Taj Mahal restaurant is one of the best places to eat.

Enjoy authentic Indian dishes, such as chicken balti and tikka masala, cooked to perfection, while you sit back and admire the view out over the beach. The Taj Mahal has a prominent position on the main promenade, friendly staff and a great value lunchtime special.
