Sardinia Holidays

Description

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean and located closer to Africa than Italy. It is an utterly charming holiday location, once exclusively the reserve of the rich and famous, yet the abundance of cheap flights now gives the Lowcost traveller the chance to rub shoulders with billionaires on the glitzy Costa Smeralda yet still keeping to a reasonable budget.

The island of Sardinia is a delightful mixture of influences. The coast line is stunning, with beautiful white beaches, amazing emerald green sea, rocky coves and small islands. Inland it is forested mountain peaks, villages nestling in hidden valleys with sheep and cattle grazing contently as they have for centuries.

Sardinia is split into two real regions; the North with the Billionaires playground of the Costa Smeralda, where Olbia serves this North East region well with its plentiful supply of cheap holiday air travel and makes an ideal base to explore from. South of Olbia lies the Golfo di Orosei, this is a magical area of hidden coves and islands. In the North West, Alghero is also well serviced by low-cost airlines. It has a beautiful old centre and Catalan is still spoken here which gives Alghero its nickname of little Barca. Along the Sardinian coast is Sassari, less crowded for holidays in summer with great restaurants.

The South of Sardinia is dominated by the Cosmopolitan capital Cagliari. Well served by budget airlines, Cagliari is very much a working city with a beautiful medieval centre that bears testament to its 2000 years of history. Cobbled piazza’s play host to excellent restaurants and taverns and there are plentiful beaches nearby.

Sardinia is well worth a visit for even the most well travelled of holidaymakers and it is highly recommended by us as a top Lowcost destination.
