ZZSardinia NorthZZ Holiday Information
With airlines flying directly from the UK into both Olbia on the north east coast and Alghero on the north west coast, holidays to northern Sardinia are easy to arrange.
Olbia is the gateway to the Costa Smeralda in the north east of Sardinia where there are many beautiful fine white sandy beaches to discover, lapped by the clear waters of the Mediterranean. Tourism along this area of the north eastern coast has been developed so that the natural surroundings are not compromised, and ensuring many unspoilt settings for holidays in Sardinia.
Where ever you choose to stay in Sardinia, you will find magnificent beaches and hidden coves. There is a good network of public transport especially around the Costa Smeralda during the summer, so there is no reason not to explore this beautiful island.
North Sardinia beach holidays
One of the most popular beaches with those on holiday in Orosei is the Osalla Bay and beach. Reached by sea or road, Osalla Beach stretches for four kilometres and is backed by pinewoods which are an ideal escape from the midday sun.
Sandy horse shoe bays and rocky coves some hidden, make up the 56 km of the Costa Smeralda. With around eighty beaches in total, the Costa Smeralda is quite unique. Porto Cervo is a favourite with buzzing nightlife, elegant shops and expensive yachts bobbing in the harbour.
The beautiful three kilometre white sands of La Cinta and the clear blue waters, together with views of Tavolara Island have added to the popularity of the resort of San Teodoro. From the beaches of San Teodoro bikes may be rented, horse riding enjoyed and scuba diving tried.
Dramatic cliff faces and long sandy pine and eucalyptus lined beaches are the delight of the north east coast around Alghero. Mugoni Beach is about 18 km from Alghero; a bay protected from the winds and boasting clear waters, this 3km long white sandy beach is a favourite with families. The lovely Maria Pia Beach is only a few kilometres from Alghero ideal for lazing the day away, with Poglina Beach more suited to surfers and windsurfers.
Head to the north east coast near Sassari and discover the natural beaches of the Marina di Sorso and the dunes of Eden Beach, or Lido Platamona with its long stretch of sand.
