Explore Cagliari
A visit to the Sardinian capital of Cagliari is a must. Stroll up to the elevated Castello quarter proudly presenting the Cagliari Cathedral, and the San Pancrazio and the Elephant towers. Then wander through the winding medieval streets taking time to browse in the craft shops and antique stores. There are many museums and galleries to visit including the National Art Gallery and National Archaeological Museum. Also in this old part of Cagliari is the Ghetto which was once military quarters but now is the home to many exhibitions and cultural events.
Within the Marina quarter of Cagliari is one of Sardinia’s largest archaeological areas, as well many a busy open air ristorante and pizzeria. The oldest quarter in Cagliari is Stampace where each street has its own church.
Divers should head to Villasimus where many scuba diving trips go to the sunken ships off the coast, and those more interested in archaeological remains can explore the Spiaggia del Riso.
